National Library Digitization Project
The Law and Technology Clinic is working in collaboration with the National Library of Israel (NL) to address legal impediments to the digitization of the NL collection and to explore some of the policy issues related to open access in the digital era.
A joint workgroup of the NL and the clinic is exploring the legal implications of digitization and online access to digital books, designing efficient strategies for determining the duration of copyright protection and whether a work is within the public domain, the collaboration between the NL digitization project and the private sector, how to address the problem of orphan works, securing access to digitized materials and developing new business models for the digital era.
In May 2011 the project organized an international conference which brought together international experts, policymakers and stakeholders on the future of digital books: eBooks: A New Era of Law, Business and Society. Online lectures from the conference can be found here.
