Law in a Changing World
Academy In Community

The Haifa Faculty of Law is not detached from the community and social environment in which it is located.

The Faculty's contribution is done on a few levels, and the rationale is using the academic added value for the benefit of the community and especially to manifest policy change.

The main program is the clinical program, which consists of seven legal clinics, in which students conduct academic research that assists different communities: prisoners, minorities, women, and people with disabilities, employees and more. The clinics enable a critical view on the legal system, identifying legal barriers and acting upon the removal of these barriers, supervised by professional lawyers and Faculty members. This is not necessarily direct legal aid to individuals, but rather dealing with issues that have a broad impact. The serious legal analysis is what eventually enables taking measures promoting social change.

But the Faculty's interaction with the community is done in other channels as well.

"Invitation to the University" is a project related to children, whose path to the university has not been paved, by forming an academic experience inside the Campus, offering these underprivileged students the opportunity to taste University life.

Many students in the faculty volunteer to "Halev" movement, an organization offering legal aid and Para-legal aid to poor people, although it is done without any academic credit or financial reward.

There are quite a few Faculty members engaged in Civil Society activities, either on an on-going or ad-hoc basis, each in their area of expertise.

The Students Council set a target of social contribution, even with no legal relevance, and is involved in philanthropic projects out of sheer social solidarity.

The Haifa University Faculty of Law truly believes that law can be a vehicle for social change, and that future lawyers educated in this institution should be driven by this mission.
