World Association for Medical Law
The World Association for Medical Law was established in 1967 at its center in the University of Gent in Belgium. The national organizations for Medical Law all over the world are members of the World Association which produces "Medicine and Law" as an international quarterly.
Members of the World Association meet every two years at biennial conferences.
In recent years, these have been held in Israel (1994), South Africa (1996), Hungary (1998), Finland (2000) and the Netherlands (2002). Future conferences are scheduled for Sydney, Australia (2004) and Toulouse, France (2006). Hundreds of researchers and educational experts are active participants in the congresses.
The World Association is governed by a Board of 30 representatives, each from a different country and chosen during the general assemblies of the congresses.
Prof. Amnon Carmi has served as President of the World Association since 1991.
